| Toronto Neighbourhoods

When it comes to families who are house hunting, the number one question I get asked is “are the schools good in this neighbourhood?”. This is an important question to ask, as we all know that unfortunately not all schools are created equally. Important things to consider about what makes a school good are the quality of the teachers, the extracurriculars offered, the range of classes offered, and the ratio of students to teacher. While of course it is important to do your own homework, based off my own personal research, here are a few neighbourhoods that offer good schools in Toronto.

Good Schools in Toronto

Rosedale – Moore Park

One of my favourite neighbourhoods that offers good schools in Toronto is Rosedale – Moore Park. This is an affluent, midtown neighbourhood that offers a plethora of highly ranked schools in a small radius. If you have artistic and creative children, look no further than the Rosedale Heights School of the Arts – a public high school. If you prefer a private education for your children, Branksome Hall is an all-girls boarding school that has been producing notable Canadian female academics for over a hundred years. It features very competitive academic programs such as the International Baccalaureate program. If you have a family with younger children, Whitney Junior Public School is a fantastic school for your little ones to attend.

Lawrence Park South

Not only is this neighbourhood one of the safest in the entire city, it also features some of the best schools. Lawrence Park Collegiate has been consistently ranked as one of the top 30 high schools in the entire province. Your children will also get a phenomenal private education at the Toronto French School if bilingualism is important to you and your family. Another outstanding school is City Academy. City Academy is a private school that offers a variety of educational options such as day and night classes, full time and part-time schooling.

Forest Hill

For families who will only accept the best education for their children, nestled in the prestigious Forest Hill neighbourhood lies Upper Canada College for boys and Bishop Strachan School for girls – two private schools that are rated among the best in the country. For those who prefer public education, look no further than Forest Hill Public School and Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School.

York Mills – Sunnybrook

Just north of midtown is a beautiful neighbourhood offering many excellent educational institutions. Public schools of note in this neighbourhood are St. Andrews Junior High School, Owen Elementary School and York Mils Collegiate (high school). For those who are interested in private education, this neighbourhood offers Bayview Glen School – a co-ed institution that teaches from grades 2-12, Crescent School – an all-boys school that teaches from grades 3-12. If getting a catholic education is important to you and your family, this neighbourhood is home to Loretto Abbey, the oldest Catholic girls school in Toronto.

Hillcrest Village

This is the perfect neighbourhood for families who care a great deal about their children’s education but are also looking for more reasonably priced homes in the city. Located in the north end of the city, Hillcrest Village offers the three highest rated public elementary schools! Whether you choose Hillmount, Arbor Glen or Seneca Hill you can rest assured that your children will receive some of the best public education this province can provide.

Today, I have introduced a short list of our city’s good schools.
