| Toronto Neighbourhoods

Humewood Cedarvale is a delightful neighbourhood that has seen rapid and progressive gentrification. The boundaries for this area are St. Clair to the south, Eglinton to the north and Bathurst to the east. Here are some reasons why I absolutely love this neighbourhood.

Architecture

The majority of the homes in this neighbourhood were built in the 1920s – so if you are looking for a vintage feel, this could be the neighbourhood for you! However, Humewood-Cedarvale also offers a diverse range of homes such as bungalows, semi-detached homes, and new builds. Many of the older homes have been beautifully renovated and feature large ravine lots with amazing views. This is an ideal neighbourhood for families as there is plenty of space for them to run and play.

Lifestyle

Humewood Cedarvale is home to a tight-knit community with a strong sense of pride of ownership. Favourite places to find local residents are in shops and restaurants located on St. Clair and Eglinton. Some favourites we recommend:

  • Crave – dubbed one of Toronto’s best chain restaurants
  • Leah’s Bakery – Leah Kalish is an accomplished pastry chef who has been serving unpretentious, classic baked goods in a warm and friendly atmosphere for 25 years. You must try the Pecan Chelsea.
  • The Rushton – if you prefer gourmet dining, this modern French restaurant is the one for you!
  • Pukka – Pukka is a forward-thinking take on Indian cuisine. Enjoy family-style sharing plates with full size flavours while maintaining a lightness that will enchant your palette.
  • Ferro Bar & Café – if you like traditional southern Italian cuisine, look no further. The recipes here have been passed down through the generations and you can taste it in every bite.
  • ParPar – we may all be living in lounge wear at the minute, but for the rare occasions that we go out in public, ParPar is the place to get local designer clothing that will have you stand out from the crowd.

Recreation

As a result of the surrounding greenery, this neighbourhood is affectionately known as “the woods”. The Cedarvale Ravine provides a natural border between the two areas. Adjacent to Forest Hill Village you will discover an outdoor hockey rink, arena, gated dog park and a hill that is favoured by children for winter tobogganing. Homeowners bordering the ravine enjoy breath-taking views of the open green spaces. With the intimate vibe offered by the area it is easy to forget you are living in a world class city.

Transportation

Residents in Humewood Cedarvale are spoiled for choice when it comes to transportation. There is a streetcar that runs along St. Clair Avenue and the neighbourhood is eagerly anticipating the completion of the LRT along Eglinton. If you prefer to drive, the Allen Expressway can easily take you to the 401.
