| Toronto Neighbourhoods

Forest Hill is one of Toronto’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, but did you know it is comprised of two smaller areas called Forest Hill North and Forest Hill South? Today, I would like to share with you my Forest Hill South neighbourhood guide. Forest Hill South is directly south of Forest Hill north. Its borders are Eglinton Avenue West to the north, Tichester Road to the south, Bathurst Street to the west and Oriole Parkway to the east.

History

When Forest Hill South was first created, the City created building codes and by-laws that required all homes in the neighbourhood to be designed by an architect and to have a tree planted at the front of each property. This has left a beautiful legacy that has maintained and reinforced Forest Hill South’s exclusive and wealthy reputation.

While the forest that the neighbourhood is named after has long since disappeared, you can still find gentle hills, winding roads, and large lots next to quaint parks.

Architecture

The majority of the homes found in Forest Hill South were built in the 1920s and 1930s. The Upper Village is largely comprised of Georgian and Tudor style homes, but you will also find English Country Manors and French Colonial homes in the neighbourhood. If you like sculptured gardens and gated entrances, this is definitely the neighbourhood to be in.

Lifestyle

This Forest Hill South neighbourhood guide could not be complete without understanding the refined lifestyle of the area. When it comes to grocery shopping, you can pop in to Loblaws or The Kitchen Table for a fine selection of gourmet foods. Yorkdale Shopping Centre is conveniently located close to for all your shopping needs, and also features a movie theatre. For those who prefer boutique shopping, there are many luxury independent retailers along Eglinton Avenue West.

Education

Forest Hill South is home to some of the country’s most revered private schools: Upper Canada College for boys and Bishop Strachan School for girls. Forest Hill South also has a Montessori school so your young ones can start receiving the best education early on. The public high school, Forest Hill Collegiate, is highly regarded and happens to be my alma mater!

Recreation

The Kay Gardiner Beltline Trail was originally the track for Toronto’s first commuter train. Today, it is a 14.5 km long nature and fitness trail. Amazing green spaces such as these are one of the many reasons Forest Hill South has maintained a beautiful and green identity.

Transportation

From almost every vantage point in Forest Hill South, you are within steps of a bus route that will connect you to one of Toronto’s subway lines. For commuters who drive, the Allen Expressway is a quick jaunt from Eglinton Avenue West.

Forest Hill South is a beautiful neighbourhood that needs to be seen to be truly appreciated. I strongly recommend you check out the video I have made that highlights my favourite parts of the neighbourhood.
