If a neighbourhood could perfectly encapsulate history, prestige, and gorgeous historical architecture, then Rosedale would be it. Surrounded by parkland ravines and mature tree-lined streets, Rosedale offers some of the best schools in the area while being just minutes away from the downtown core of Toronto.

If you are interested in more than a leisurely stroll through some of the leafiest glades in Toronto, Rosedale has plenty of options for you!

Mayfair

On Friday May 10th, between 4:00 – 10:00 PM and on Saturday May 11th from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, the 73rd annual Mayfair will be held in Rosedale Park. As one of the oldest and most beloved fairs in Toronto, you can expect fun and entertainment to the hilt. There will be amazing rides for the biggest daredevils as well as beginner excitement for little ones. Speaking of little ones, there will be a special place just for Mayfair’s youngest visitors with fun inflatables. They can climb Volcano Island or sail the seven seas on John Silver’s Pirate Ship, among many other inflatables. If you are more creative there are opportunities to get your face painted or try your hand at some of the midway games.

There will be a barbecue on Friday that will feature Summerhill Market’s famous ribs as well as free admission to the Beer & Wine Garden where you can enjoy the fine selections by Steam Whistle, Georgian Bay Spirits and D’Ont Poke the Bear. There will be live music both days and free bike and stroller valet parking! For more information check out their website.

Art Fair

If you possess a more refined palette, consider coming to the Rosedale Art Fair Exhibit and Sale on June 8th and 9th in Scrivener Square. This is a great opportunity to view and purchase original artwork from over 60 local artists. Admission to this event is free so bring all your family and friends to this wonderful outdoor fair promoting unique local paintings, photography, sculptures and more!

The Rebel House

If you are more interested in the daily goings-on in Rosedale rather than big events, you must come to this neighbourhood favourite. Though vastly different from the traditional aesthetic of the neighbourhood, this 18-year-old local pub has killer mason-jar Caesars and 18 Canadian microbrews on tap. If you are looking for an eclectic vibe, look no further than The Rebel House, which features a whimsical nylon parachute for a shade umbrella in their back patio in the summer!

The Drake Hotel General Store

For those who love to shop for unique pieces that add a little humour and kitsch to their lifestyle, the Drake Hotel General Store’s Rosedale satellite is perfect. Prepare to find totem pole salt and pepper shakers, Mountie napkins, and other Canadiana home goods that you never knew you needed until now.

Rosedale has so much to offer: from century-old architecture to funky stores and restaurants as well as lively fairs. If you would like to learn more about the neighbourhood, please check out my page on Rosedale where I provide both a written and video-description of one of my favourite pockets of Toronto.
