Selling Your Home in Spring: Getting Your Home Ready to Sell | Elli Davis

|

Has your home been through a lot this winter? Spring is just around the corner – and with it comes a lively seller’s market. If you have considered selling your home in spring, ensure that it is sale-ready with these spring tips:

Spruce Up Your Yard

Winter will have left debris on your once beautiful lawn. While we all know that it is natural to see this, it is unsightly. Make sure to tidy up your yard before pictures of your home are taken and before it is viewed. Cut down those lanky tree limbs or trim the bushes to allow the sun to pour into your home.

If the weather is nice and has allowed for your grass to grow, mow diagonally so that it makes your yard look larger and more appealing to potential buyers. It is also a wise investment to go to your local nursery and pick up some brightly coloured and, more specifically, yellow tulips and daffodils. Not only are they pretty signs of spring, but yellow flowers are proven to induce feelings of happiness!

Power Wash

Have you ever gone for a walk in your neighbourhood only to notice that one house has power washed their sidewalk and parts of their house? The change in the property is instantly attractive. This is a great and inexpensive way to improve the look of your house – you can rent a power washer for about $50!

Work On Your Windows

If you are selling your home in spring, make sure to wash your windows inside and out so that they are spotless and allow sunlight to shine in. When the weather permits, open your windows during a viewing or open house – a spring breeze is very inviting.

Bring Your Garden Inside

In addition to having yellow spring flowers adorning your front yard, use a few vases to fill up your home with the smell of fresh flowers. The flowers that tend to have the most agreeable scents are lilacs and peonies. Even a condo can benefit from fresh floral arrangements.

Be Prepared

Canada is famous for having a topsy-turvy spring – one day will be rainy and another will be bright and sunny. Present both an outdoor and an indoor mat around your front door for cleaning shoes, and place an umbrella stand at the front entrance of your home. Not only does this help your house or condo stay clean between viewings, but it also shows you are considerate and makes the property more appealing to potential buyers.

Spring is a time for renewal and fresh starts – shed the signs of winter and make your home as warm and inviting as possible. Selling your home in spring is a great option, but remember, you only get one chance at a first impression!
