Many fall in love with The Annex due to its historical significance and architectural charm, but did you know that some of Toronto’s best restaurants are in The Annex? Here’s a small handful of places you must visit if you are seeking a gourmet adventure.

Kinka Izakaya

If you are looking for a lively dining atmosphere, look no further than Kinka Izakaya. While the austere brick wall would describe the restaurant as more conservative in nature, upon entry you will be greeted with an eruption of cheers. Imagine it akin to arriving at your own surprise party. The food is also perfect for this party-style atmosphere. Self-described as Japanese tapas, this is the perfect place to pick and share small portions of the best that Japan has to offer. Kimchi Udon, Assorted Oden, Brie Cheese, Seared B.C. Tuna, Sashimi Salad, Daikon Salad, Green Tea Cheesecake, Almond Tofu and Sake Tiramisu are just some of the tantalizing menu items waiting for you to try at Kinka Izakaya.

Live Organic Food Bar

For those that are more health-conscious, Live Organic Food Bar is the original purveyor or raw food in Toronto. Here you can enjoy wraps, burgers, and a variety of bowls and salads that not only are good for you, but they taste delicious, too! Sit back and relax in their colourful and vibrant patio and see how delicious healthy eating can be.

Fat Pasha

If you’ve heard of Anthony Rose, then you’ve also heard of his back-to-basics delicatessen, Rose and Sons. You might have also heard of his mouth-wateringly delicious store Schmaltz. Anthony Rose, who is on a mission to highlight the many avenues of Jewish food in Toronto, is also the head of Fat Pasha – arguably one of the best restaurants in The Annex. Fat Pasha seamlessly blends Israeli and Sephardic cuisines. Why pick between whole grilled fish and mezze spreads when you can have both? Their latkes topped with caviar pair surprisingly well with their shawarma and mixed grilled feast. Whatever you do, when you come to Fat Pasha – come hungry! There truly is something for everyone on this culturally diverse menu.

Playa Cabana Hacienda

Playa Cabana Hacienda seems to not need much advertising – its original Dupont location was perpetually packed and its second home in the Annex seems to be no less busy. With original brick walls and distressed woods throughout, this casual, vintage-themed restaurant is no twin of either of its sister restaurants. Playa Cabana Hacienda offers a delicious snack bar menu such as chorizo pulpo tacos, lobster tostadas, and short rib de queretaro tostadas. Come for the tacos, stay for the margaritas! Life always feels like a beach day at Playa Cabana Hacienda.
