Yorkville, officially considered part of The Annex, is bordered by Bloor Street to the south, Davenport Road to the north, Yonge Street to the east, and Avenue Road to the west.

Once known as the Canadian capital of the hippie movement, it has undergone many transformations and now has the reputation of a dynamic urban centre whose very name evokes images of wealth, style and luxury. With an eclectic mix of Victorian houses, luxury condos, commercial office towers, plush four-star hotels, gourmet restaurants, theatres, and a prestigious shopping district, there is little doubt why Yorkville real estate is one of Toronto’s most sought after.

Homes

Quaint residential streets are sprinkled throughout the neighbourhood and Victorian mews, most of which were built between 1870 and 1895 and have picturesque gardens, are prominently featured in Yorkville real estate.

In contrast, the ever-changing Bloor Street is home to some of Toronto’s most expensive condos with price tags in the multi-millions. At the corner of Yonge and Bloor Streets, “The One” is destined to be the tallest residential building in Canada at its completion.

Schools

There is a small selection of highly-rated schools located in Yorkville, including Jesse Ketchum Junior and Senior Public School, McDonald International Academy, the Blyth Academy Yorkville, and the University of Toronto.

Recreation

Yorkville is home to the award-winning Village of Yorkville Park, a series of unique gardens which represent different regions of Canada and reflect the diversity of their landscapes.

Yorkville is also distinguished by its many exclusive art galleries, including Gallery One, Drabinsky Gallery, Beckett Fine Art, Maslak McLeod, Scollard Street Gallery, Old Master Gallery, Feheley Fine Arts, Gallery Gevik, Hollander York Gallery, Kinsman Robinson Gallery, Miriam Shiell Fine Art, Loch Gallery, and Mira Godard Gallery.

Popular destinations such as the George R. Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, the Royal Ontario Museum also offer an afternoon of enjoyment for all ages.

Home to TIFF, the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, makes Yorkville the centre of some of Toronto’s most exciting and dynamic events with screenings of over 300 films from over 50 countries every September. During the rest of the year, the Manulife Centre on the corner of Bay and Bloor features 12 state-of-the-art cinemas.

Transportation

The intersection of two major subway lines at both the St. George and Yonge/Bloor TTC stations is an asset and makes Bloor Yorkville real estate an ideal choice for those who commute by subway to work. Several bus lines also run through Yorkville and, for motorists, the Don Valley Parkway is a short five-minute drive away.

Shopping

With designer boutiques, jewellery shops, gourmet cafes and eateries, world-class spas, art galleries, and more—over 700 shops can be found on the 27 blocks that make up the Bloor-Yorkville Business Improvement Area.

Globally recognized as a shopping destination and the third most expensive retail space in North America, Yorkville is a luxury goods mecca. Boutiques from a variety of international labels such as Prada, Hermes, Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton are located here, as well as high-end Canadian retailers like Holt Renfrew and Harry Rosen. Mid-market chains are also located on the strip offering more affordable options.

Local Gems

Some of my Yorkville favourite eateries include Chef David Lee’s Planta which features an innovative plant-based menu with an international flair. Meanwhile, Morton’s Steakhouse is a Yorkville staple for aged prime beef and seafood for those who appreciate the highest quality of sustainably-raised meat.

Located in a two-storey Victorian house with a year-round patio, Bar Reyna is an upscale cocktail and snack bar in a bohemian setting that offers an array of beverages and edibles featuring Mediterranean tapas. Head to La Societe in the heart of Yorkville for classic French bistro cuisine in a stunning venue with a mesmerizing stained glass ceiling and mosaic tile floors.
